Just because Christ kept the law perfectly for the elect, does not mean that the elect are free from the law, absolutely. For example, Christ kept all the moral commands for the elect perfectly. This does not mean we have the freedom to not love the Lord with all one’s heart, mind, soul and strength; or that we are free to conjure up heavenly images after the desire of our own devices. Using the Lord’s name in vain. Keeping the sabbath day ‘holy’. However imperfect we keep these commands is irrelevant. We do not throw the baby out with the bathwater as a result of our imperfection. It is Christ who perfects the imperfect! But, we participate and work it out.
